Henri Matisse's Red Room, my favorite painting, is found in this work.  I have used a small print of his painting as a source of inspiration, a background, or just a colorful element in about 8 different paintings.  Using lace in my work is a way of hiding part of my painting.  The viewer can tell there is something behind the lace, but can't truly see it.  In this painting,  I especially enjoyed interpreting the way light, too, can be seen behind the lace and is cast onto the background.  Another work using the painting Red Room is You Will Be Surrounded By Luxury.  Another painting that shows light shining through lace is Corner Cupboard.  I find the reflective properties of silver fascinating, and silver objects can be found in Valentines, Old Glass and Cookbooks and Silver With Fruit and Cakes.
