Noticing how the late afternoon sun was hitting a
cupboard sitting in our living room, I was inspired to rearrange its contents,
add some lace, etc., and paint it. I loved the way light shone through the
lace onto the background items. After spending much time arranging items,
then completing the drawing, I was ready to paint. By this time, at least
a week had gone by and the sun, of course, was no longer in that position.
I had to hang a spotlight from a nearby curtain to take the place of the missing
sunshine. This was the last time I ever attempted to paint by natural
light; it's not reliable! Another painting that shows light shining
through lace is
Apples and Silver.
