A box of old quilt pieces from my husband's
grandmother's house was the inspiration for this painting. If you are a
quilter, then you will know that "Ocean Waves" is the name of the quilt pattern
that is tacked to the wall in the painting. I combined the quilt pieces
with other items from her or that reminded me of her. I tried to use
things that might have been found in her house in the late forties or fifties.
As in Kitchen Still Life, this
painting was done at a time when I was mainly using antiques as the props in my
work, imparting a nice homey feeling. Other prints that contain quilts are
in a commissioned painting,
Quilts and
Pure Indiana.
