The filminess of the curtains lend a dream-like
quality to this painting. The marriage of my college roommate's daughter
inspired it. The wedding caused a 30-year flashback in which I
realized there were a great many things that hadn't worked out the way I
thought they would. Some were good, and some were not. That, in turn,
caused me to rethink some of the things that were terribly important to me
as a child, most of which I gratefully realize didn't work out either.
Represented are clippings on race relations in this country, education books
(I was supposed to be an art teacher), and a photo of my Dad who died at the
age of 67. Among those terribly important items are make-up, horses, Cocoa
Puffs, my school lunch box and old school pictures. My roommate and I are
pictured as we were in college, in the top, center, between the curtains.
